Let me guess, W and P Paddock were "FOOD EXPERTS" because they ate food.
the final and most important question ... were the wts.
doctrines specifically created to attract the.
attention to the organization's printed literature and to proliferate that literature to its fullest possible.
I believe that it would be impossible to separate the Watchtower MAGAZINE from the Jehovah's Witness religion. In fact, the way I see it is that the whole point of the religion, much like a pyramid scheme, is to get other people to do the religion. The biz is getting other people to work the biz. Going out preaching is specifically to get other people to go out placing magazines. Then you get still other people to place magazines, and they get other people to place magazines, and they get other people to place magazines, and they get tired of writing this.... Ever see a JW household that is not covered top to bottom in magazines and WT books? It's like the disease is a virus that lives in the ink that is printed in the magazines. once you get infected, you are driven to proliferate the virus. You may even start dating a non JW with plans to convert them, all so the virus can be spread into still more households. Families are built just to be storage facilities for the ink-borne virus, or what is the other word for virus? A creature that lives off of a host... can't think of it right now. But it's sort of like the scary creatures on SG 1 Stargate.
so last night the wife is working, the kids are getting ready for bed and i'm watching futurama.
doorbell rings.
now it's dark, snowing and i live on a back road, so it's very odd to have a visitor.
Also, man I am really self conscious all of a sudden. Not just for doing drop ins as a JW, and as a Bethelite God I was every bit as disgusting as all these examples, but even now I realize how much I still do it as a non JW! A friend I used to live in a while back asked me to please call before I come over and it just never had occurred to me. We used to live together so I just figured we still did I guess. I am going to have to do some internal checking to make sure I stop doing this. Of course, I never have to worry about people doing it to me because noone ever wants to come over. Oh yeah, I just remember going over the house of a girlfriend not too long ago and it just seemed like 9pm was "not that late" but I had a song I wanted to play her that I had just written. I assumed she would be as excited about it as I was. She wasn't. And I think she might have had company at the time if you know what I mean. I haven't heard from her in a long time.

I have never received a pop in of any sort. Well, when I was a kid and my family was being mined for future prospects and such. I remember an elder named Doug Ree$e would show up at weird times when the kids were all alone. He would comment on the music we were listening to. It always seemed like he was out in service. My mom suffered a lot of embarrassment during those years. But as an individual grown up, so far since I have been out, in 2002, I have never received any kind of visit. I am kind of jealous. All those years of pioneering and Bethel and to just get dropped so fast and never even looked in on, it is amazing actually. I think if I had a wife and kids to be mined then someone might have cared to try and "save at least the kids." But it is pretty clear that I can never be used again, a lame mule so to speak, it is hardly worth the effort to waste time on me. And they always seem to get my address pretty quickly once I move.

I don't know why you wouldn't nail them for the fact that they came un-announced. I wonder if it is actually some policy that they do not call ahead. Is someone talking to them about you? Maybe they are fishing.
i'm at mcdonald's right now and the old lady who says god takes her thoughts and puts them in the watchtower is here and studying at her usual table.
she has a spread of wts out and usually has a line forming for her to study with people.
anyway i tried to tell hger about the new definition of faithful and discreet slave, but she is insisting there has been no change.

this might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).
How could the book of Job be the infallible word of God if it was written in verse? In other words, for Job to be literally true, they would have had to be speaking to one another in verse, like in a play, rhyming and whatnot. What is said to have been said in that book could not have really been said. It's a sort of impressionist work of art at best.

8 not ashamed of the good news .
while it is true that jehovahs witnesses are hated and opposed in all the nations of the earth, this is in fulfillment of what was foretold to be an identifying mark of genuine worshipers of the one living and true god.
Probably more irrelevant. They are laughed at but not hated.
you may have heard the expression: "the map is not the territory.
" have you ever thought about how this idea may help you reach your loved ones stuck in a cult?
the phrase has been attributed to polish-american scientist and philosopher alfred korzybski.
Great thoughts. I think we should likewise realize that THE WORD (or words in general) is not the territory either. i think people's reverence towards words is a far greater problem and further reaching. Anybody who believes that the Bible is the infallible word of God, or that their perspective is God's perspective, actually believe that the words ARE the reality.
coming to the understanding that words are vague aproximations of reality and fall incredibly short in describing truth and reality was among the first things that I learned in college that really unstuck my mind from Watchtower programming.
